Maryville isn't what it used to be. It is overcrowded, expensive, constant traffic and full of rude transplants who are better than those of us who were raised here and were loyal to this area when it WAS a small town and people wanted to move away.

You need a video that is along the lines of 6 reasons to stay where you are. No matter how polite people in Tennessee may be to you the reality is that no one really likes or appreciates you moving here.

You forgot Harriman. It's perfectly situated close to all the cities west of Knoxville without any of the traffic and large city items.

Before April 2024, I had never stepped foot in Tennessee. I had an opportunity to go into business with a longtime friend who lives in the Knoxville area. I bought a home and move the family here. I love the house. It’s beautiful. It’s up on the mountain. It’s got stunning views. It’s on 2 acres. The deer come up and wildlife come up every day. It’s not something that I’ve ever been around in my life. That being said, there are things that I was not aware of or did not consider before making the ultimate decision to move here and I just wanted to share those. First of all, I’m an animal lover and the sheer number of animals that are killed every day either on the roads or through hunting is shocking to me. I live in a smaller town and my business is in a smaller town a few miles away from the house. The drive into work is stunning. I absolutely love it, but there is an insane number of police officers that are trolling around these little towns. They have set up in my opinion Crazy speed traps all over the place reducing speed limits to insanely low levels. Also, for the share number of police, they never seem to do anything, especially since this area is known for significant drug issues. I feel like I’m constantly on guard and it’s not comfortable. If you come from a larger city environment like I did, you’re not going to find many Starbucks or those types of creature comforts that you’re used to they simply just have not made it here to the smaller towns outside of Knoxville. Everyone says the cost of living is lower here and I really don’t find that to be the case. Our mortgage is about the same as it would be pretty much anywhere except for maybe California or New York. Food prices are about the same but salaries are a fraction of what you’re going to make in a larger city so if you’re not financially set, you could find yourself in serious trouble. The US Postal Service out here is horrible. We’ve had so much trouble getting packages and mail. Also, there are no Amazon delivery vehicles that I’ve ever seen. Amazon packages and other packages are delivered by the poor quality Postal Service. These are just a few of the issues that impact our day-to-day lives and I wanted to share those if you’re thinking about moving out here

So the totally relevant question I have is: Is the 40 freeway any better structurally in TN than it is through AZ and NM? I drove some miles along the 40 from CA into TX and when I returned to L. A., I needed repairs to my car underneath. It was/is a literal washboard for more than a 500 mile stretch through there. Worst highway I have ever traveled.

My wife and I are considering moving to Sevierville. We live in Fort Lauderdale FL now. Will be researching all information tht we can regarding home buying and all of the expense comparisons between Fort Laud & Sevierville. Any information and guidance is much appreciated

I think if it's a felony to assult a police officer, it should be a felony for them to assult people as well. Especially if you're in situations where they just are beating you up. Who wouldn't try to defend themselves. And there's no way I'd be able to sit still with a dog on my throat period.

The most serious reason not to move to East Tennessee is the substandard healthcare. I would try to be in proximity to Knoxville to access better healthcare. Took husband to local ER at 3am cuz his BP was 200/100 and he was screaming in pain and the nurses came in the room and were laughing at him. Most unprofessional behavior ever and I was an ICU nurse in Florida and never witnessed that kind of behavior. I would have reported a colleague if I had seen that kind of behavior. This was not a one off, we have experienced other negatives with the local hospitals, including 6-8 hours waits in the ER. Not acceptable under any circumstances.

I think this blog is more a promotion of East Tennessee wildlife. If you see an Elk or a Red Wolf, be sure to photograph it and post it. You will be a hero. In 78 years, I have only seen two copper head snakes and one Timber Rattle Snake. I have seen dozens of Black Snakes. I have timberland and river front property in East Tennessee. I have seen one Red Wolf in Grainger Co., TN. I have also seen a half dozen Wildcats. Frankly, I have seen more bears, wildcats and panthers in Naples, FL and Python Snakes than I have ever seen in Tennessee.

Jonesborough is growing, local news said town grew from 6 to 10,000 people in 2 years I believe it! My taxes went from $775. Last year to about $940. This year! I’m just hoping all the new people coming in don’t want to bring their blue state ideas with them! Remember that is why you left that expensive, big brother always looking over your shoulder state!

(insert cheap watered down beer co. here) Hardee's is a delicacy in most of TN, although the rest of the country think they are out of business, bc no one would actually eat there. (caviat for breakfast biscuits only) Johnson City - recently visited, nice town, but they're still talking about masks..LOL i guess no one went to med school or can read a book in a town with 3 colleges, must be low grade point admittance

So what? I live in Nj sharing a 6 lines highway with a horrible traffic and a 15 min trip can last for 50 min frequently and on top of that you pay tolls 🤷🏻‍♂️
